Connecting a custom domain

Your included jump.site address needs no setup. If you would rather publish on a subdomain of your own domain, the dashboard wizard walks you through it.

Every growth site publishes on a branded address derived from your business name — something like acme-plumbing.jump.site. Hosting and SSL are included, and it needs no DNS work, no certificate, and no configuration from you at all.

Connecting your own domain is optional. Plenty of businesses never do it.

Why you might connect your own

Publishing on a subdomain of your own domain — guides.yourbusiness.com, say — keeps everything under one name. If that matters to you, or your brand guidelines require it, the option is there.

The four steps

The wizard lives in your dashboard, under publishing.

  1. Overview Enter the subdomain you want to use and confirm what is about to change.
  2. Add a DNS record The wizard shows you the exact record to create, with a copy button. It recognises most registrars and shows instructions for yours.
  3. Securing Once the record is visible, an SSL certificate is issued automatically. There is nothing to do here but wait — the wizard keeps checking.
  4. Go live When DNS and the certificate are both confirmed, the site switches over to your address.

What you need

  • Access to your domain's DNS settings — usually at your registrar or wherever your main website is hosted.
  • A subdomain you are not already using for something else.
  • A little patience: DNS changes take time to propagate, sometimes minutes and occasionally hours.

After the switch

The site is republished so that every canonical URL, sitemap entry and internal link points at the new address. You do not need to do anything to make that happen, and articles published afterwards use the new address automatically.

If a DNS record is not detected, the most common cause is that it was added to the wrong domain or has not propagated yet. Leave the wizard running — it keeps checking — and if it is still not resolving after a few hours, email support@jumpsites.co.
